Marchel Alverson

Member Services Manager - Greater Kansas City

In her role as Member Services Manager – Greater Kansas City, Marchel supports Kansas City grantmakers by connecting them to services and a statewide funder network available through Philanthropy Missouri (PhilMO). Prior to her role at PhilMO, Marchel worked primarily in Kansas City’s nonprofit sector for over 25 years. Previous roles include Vice President of Marketing and Communications at the Urban League of Greater Kansas City and Director of Marketing and Communications for First Call. She is the founder and CEO of Marchel INK Writing & Editing Services LLC, which was selected as a 2025 Small Business Superstar by the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce.

Born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri, she is also the author of four fiction novels. Marchel is a Thorpe Menn Literary Excellence Award Nominee; she was selected as a member of the Women and Words cohort in conjunction with Penguin Random House.

She served on the Comprehensive Mental Health Services Board of Directors and is a board member of Building Beautiful Black Girls. Marchel is certified in Mental Health First Aid and AI. She is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and the Kansas City Association of Black Journalists. Marchel holds a master’s degree in communications from the University of Missouri-Kansas City and a bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

When not working, Marchel enjoys spending time with her two adult children, writing, reading, cycling, and loves to vacation at any and every beach location.
