Learning & Network Manager (Full-Time)

Job Description

The Learning & Network Manager strengthens Missouri’s philanthropic sector by cultivating meaningful connections, peer learning, and collaboration among PhilMO Members and partners. This role ensures PhilMO programs, services, and Funder Networks are well-coordinated, responsive to the field, and aligned with broader association strategies. PhilMO approaches Member learning collaboratively, with all team members contributing ideas and supporting execution. Our Network & Learning Manager leads implementation, coordinates team contributions, and ensures evaluation and continuous improvement across programs. Title:  Learning & Network Manager

Reports To:   CEO

Supervises: None initially; supervision may be added within first 18 months based on interest and capacity

Where: Metro St. Louis preferred; candidates based anywhere in Missouri will be considered 

Hours: 37.5 hours/week

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Program & Services Management – 45% of time
Manage ideation, development, implementation, and evaluation of PhilMO’s learning and networking programs, including virtual and in-person offerings (30-50 programs annually). Responsibilities include:
● Coordinate annual program calendar and programs budget in partnership with the CEO and Operations team.
● Ensure programs are timely, relevant, and responsive to Missouri’s philanthropic landscape.
● Draft and edit program descriptions, agendas, facilitation materials, and slides.
● Directly communicate and/or manage team communication with guest speakers, facilitators, hosts, and participants.
● Oversee event logistics, day-of facilitation support, and post-program follow-up, including evaluations, acknowledgments, and website updates.
● Work with the Operations team to guide program-related evaluation and identify key metrics to track over time.
● Serve as staff lead with the Board Committee overseeing Program & Services, including establishing meeting schedule, building agendas, and reporting at quarterly meetings.

Network Management – 25% of time
Oversee the cultivation of PhilMO Member Networks, which regularly convene Missouri grantmakers by type of organization, funding interest area, geography served, and personal identity. With appropriate PhilMO team support, the Learning & Network Manager will:
● Manage overall design and delivery of high-quality learning and engagement opportunities for Networks.
● Coordinate Network calendars and communications to ensure Members stay informed and engaged.
● Identify and support volunteer Network Member-Advisors in providing peer leadership to Networks.

Partnerships & Collaborative Communications - 15% of time
Advancing PhilMO’s role as a trusted connector across Missouri’s philanthropic ecosystem, including:
● Collaborate with the Operations team to regularly update program-related data and resources across online platforms.
● Participate actively on the PhilMO team, including staff meetings, one-on-one meetings with supervisor, and check-ins with related contractors.
● Build and maintain relationships with other PIOs and sector stakeholders.
● Participate in community meetings and collaborative initiatives.

Sector Learning, Research, & Reports – 10% of time
● Respond to Member inquiries and track the team’s collective work to respond to Members’requests for customized research.
● Stay current on trends in philanthropy, development, and the nonprofit sector.
● Ensure a high level of accountability through translation of work-related activities into progress reports for staff and Board of Directors.

Additional Contributions - 5% of time
● Produce special reports and/or contribute to special projects as needed.
● Engage actively in strategic planning and team development.
● With supervisor, identify and pursue meaningful individual professional development.

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Attitude for Learning & Network Manager:
● Enthusiasm for PhilMO’s mission, vision, and values, and commitment to strengthening the philanthropic sector in Missouri.
● Excellent project management and event planning skills, including delegation and oversight of delegated tasks.
● Curiosity, adaptability, passion for learning, and growth-centered mindset.
● Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and cultivating inclusion across identities, beliefs, and lived experiences.
● Superb time management and ability to work problems independently and arrive at solutions after initial direction.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills, including editing.
● Sound judgement, high ethical standards, and respect for confidentiality.
● Comfortable learning new technologies and adapting to change.
● Willingness to occasionally – with advanced notice – travel statewide and work early morning or evening hours; prefer access to reliable personal transportation.

Preferred Qualifications & Skills for Learning & Network Manager:
● Experience evaluating programs and measuring impact.
● Four (4) or more years of experience working with grantmakers, nonprofits, or intermediary organizations serving the nonprofit sector.
● Understanding of philanthropy’s opportunities and critiques.
● Comfortable with public speaking and group facilitation in virtual and in-person settings.
● Enthusiasm for using team technology overall and prior experience with related platforms or our specific platforms, including: Google Workspace, Canva, GrowthZone, and MailChimp.
● Ability to lift or move up to 20 pounds, with accommodations available as needed.
● Based in or near Philanthropy Missouri headquarters in St. Louis, MO.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary. $56,400-62,400 ($29-32/hour), depending on hours and experience.
Flexibility in Work Schedule and Location. Within the context of each team member’s responsibilities, we support them working when and where they are most productive. We request employees work at least 51% of the time in Missouri, with some exceptions possible. For this position, team collaboration and hosting programs will require some “traditional” working hours. All Missouri applicants will be considered; the preference is for this team member to be St. Louis-based and work from PhilMO headquarters (5501 Delmar Blvd, St. Louis, MO 63112) at least once a week.
Holidays & Time Off. To support team members in taking excellent care of themselves and their families, we complement our flexible work schedule with at least 15 paid holidays and paid time off (PTO). Full-time PTO begins at 15 days annually; part-time PTO is prorated based on hours (e.g., 20 hours/week begins at 8 days annually).
Professional Development. As a learning organization, we invest in the development of each employee. All team members are expected to engage in – and may propose – team and individual learning opportunities.
Community Volunteerism. Time is allocated monthly for team members to serve in self-selected community roles that are consistent with PhilMO’s 501(c)(3) nonprofit status and conflict of interest policies.
Travel & Expenses. Pre-approved work-related expenses, including travel and technology equipment, will be directly paid or reimbursed promptly.
Retirement. 3% of salary contributed by PhilMO into a retirement account annually (employee contribution is optional). Employees are eligible upon the first day of work.
Insurance (Full-Time Only). 100% medical, dental, vision, life, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurance premium coverage for the full-time employee. Individual coverage begins 30-60 days after the first day of full-time work.
