Program Description

Grab your lunch and join PhilMO for the a virtual lunchtime screening & discussion of the documentary Digging In

This film by KC-filmmakers Nathan Johnson and Jay W. Austin is designed to help funders understand concentration and consolidation, land access, and climate change and explore the connection these issues have to their work and the work of their grantees. Filmed across the United States, the Missouri communities of Auxvasse, Kansas City, and Mexico are specifically featured. The film will build upon themes discussed in Part I, which explores the U.S. Farm Bill. After the screening, we will have a robust discussion.

This program is designed with PhilMO Members and Non-Member Funders in mind. Share with your colleagues who are interested in the intersection of grantmaking, food systems, and equity.

Special thanks to Sustainable Agriculture & Food Systems Funders (SAFSF) and PhilMO Member Missouri Foundation for Health for supporting access to the film.

Optional Pre-Work

This is a two-part series that began in March 2024 with Digging In (Part I): MO Funder Briefing on the Farm Bill. While not required, we do encourage you to view the Farm Bill Briefing prior to the film screening to better understand the policy systems at play.
