With a commitment to an equitable and thriving Missouri, funders are increasingly establishing or expanding their work in systems change. These efforts may include advocacy work such as publishing research, polling, media engagement, community organizing, policymaker education, and various forms of lobbying activity.
This workshop offers critical content about related legal guidelines and an opportunity to meet other funders who are making similar investments. An expert trainer from Bolder Advocacy will explain the law governing philanthropic investment and activity in a range of advocacy activities, including lobbying. Join for a refresher or to learn about these guidelines for the first time!
Participating in-person is strongly encouraged. Yes, we will provide coffee and delightful snacks. However, the most important reason to be there in-person is to (re)connect with peer philanthropic leaders interested in this work. There will be two in-person locations -- Springfield (concurrently with the SWMO Funder Network Convening) and St. Louis. For those unable to travel to St. Louis or Springfield, a virtual-only option will be available.
For those interested in participating in PhilMO's Public Policy & Advocacy Network, this program offers good foundational information about how to understand what kinds of action (in addition to unlimited Network learning) make sense for your funding organization.

Philanthropy Missouri appreciates Trio Foundation and Wells Fargo for supporting our equity-focused work. Special thanks to Community Foundation of the Ozarks and Deaconess Foundation for donating use of their facilities so we can gather in-person.
Bolder Advocacy lawyers, coaches and nonprofit experts work to make advocacy easy and accessible for nonprofit and foundation leaders. Believing that the social sector has a vital role in systems change, training seeks to demystify the rules that govern the wide range of advocacy options open to the sector, including lobbying. Bolder Advocacy is a program of the Alliance for Justice – a national association of 120 organizations that are united by a commitment to a fair, just, and free America where everyone has equal access to justice and can fully participate in our democracy.
