Gateway Center for Giving (GCG) convened area grantmakers and nonprofits at GCG’s Annual Meeting on Friday, January 24. Guest speaker and philanthropic futurist Trista Harris, the author of FutureGood, offered her insights into ways that sector stakeholders can cultivate a future-oriented perspective to facilitate thoughtful decisions. She encouraged the audience to assess the trends and prepare for realities that will impact their work, and she emphasized the importance and value of regional associations like GCG that boost sector collaboration and inspiration.
“For fifty years, Gateway Center for Giving has helped area donors to connect, learn and act with impact,” noted Board Chair Jenny Hoelzer. “As we celebrate five decades of leadership, Gateway Center for Giving remains uniquely situated to provide a venue for forward-thinking philanthropic alliances and action.”
“Gateway Center for Giving Members collectively represent $5.8 billion in charitable assets, of which more than $261 million is deployed in the St. Louis region each year, creating sustained and meaningful impact,” added GCG CEO Deborah Dubin. “We look to the future with optimism and a renewed commitment to supporting strategic, robust and inclusive giving in alignment with our community’s needs and goals.”
Business Meeting
After Board of Directors elections, GCG Board Chair Jenny Hoelzer welcomed the following seven additions to the Gateway Center for Giving Board for a three-year term:

- Jane Callahan, JF Roblee Foundation
- Emily Koenig, St. Louis County Children’s Service Fund
- D-Lori Newsome-Pitts, Ameren Missouri
- Beth Radtke, Baptist-Trinity-Lutheran Legacy Foundation
- Rich Ryffel, J.P. Morgan Chase & Co.
- Deena Lauver Scotti, Missouri Foundation for Health
The following two GCG Directors were elected to serve a second three-year term:
- Julie Hardin, Cigna/Express Scripts
- Al Mitchell, Bayer
GCG Board Officers elected for 2020 are:
- Jenny Hoelzer, Commerce Bank, Board Chair
- Gregory Glore, Glore Fund, Vice Chair
- Vander Corliss, United Way of Greater St. Louis, Secretary
- Angela Fleming Brown, Regional Health Commission, Treasurer
Outgoing GCG Board Members: Six retiring Board Members were recognized for their outstanding service to the organization: David Desai-Ramirez, IFF; Desiree Coleman, Wells Fargo Advisors; Jama Dodson, Saint Louis MHB; Michael Grabenhorst, Northern Trust; Lindsay Matush, Vario; and Melinda McAliney, Brown Sisters Foundation.
